Applicants must be currently serving at the DR-03 or DR-04 band levels AND currently assigned to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) AND qualified for the 0801, 1301, 1515, 1520, 1529 or 1550 occupational series.
Pay range for a DR-04: $138,394-$171,140 total salary
Pay range for a DR-03: $108,506-$153,338 total salary
This position will serve to advance Air Force initiatives leading to the dramatic improvement of military and warfighter ISR capabilities! The AFRL Sensors Directorate, on behalf of AFRL, seeks to hire a highly experienced and motivated senior-level engineer/scientist as the Mission Area Lead (MAL) for Global Integrated Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (GIISR) in AFRL/RY.
This interdisciplinary position is located at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio and will be filled at the Senior-level DR-03 (GS-14 equivalent) or DR-04 (GS-15 equivalent) in the occupational series listed below. Teleworking from remote locations is not available. PCS funding may be considered.
0801 – General Engineer
1301 – Physical Scientist
1515 - Operations Research Analyst
1520 - Mathematician
1529 - Mathematical Statistician
1550 – Computer Scientist
The incumbent of this position will serve as AFRL's primary focal point for the strategic advancement of the state-of-the-art of current ISR technology and systems and to serve as Mission Area Lead for GIISR
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Formulates, directs, coordinates and influences major R&D across AFRL, other DoD and Gov't laboratories, and private and commercial organizations to achieve strategic goals.
- Delivers compelling and authoritative briefings to the AFRL Enterprise and key customers.
- Builds coalitions and proactively seeks business opportunities in the form of cross directorate, cross laboratory, or Government to industry initiatives leading to dramatic improvements in military/warfighter ISR capabilities.
- Provides senior-level guidance and recommendations to AFRL senior leaders.
- Applies expert knowledge and mastery of advanced engineering or scientific methods, theories, and standards to direct the day-to-day activities of AFRL, ACC and AF Futures GIISR Capability Working Groups (CWG) and across AFRL, ACC, AF Futures and AFLCMC.
- Supports Commander in preparing for GO/SES-level engagements, such as the TEO Review, as well as, periodic engagements with HAF/A2/6, ACC/A2/A589, NGA, NRO, AFLCMC and others.
- GIISR MAL maintains two-way communications with stakeholders, collects the full range of their capability needs and gaps, and shares this information across our Enterprise.
- GIISR MAL leads AFRL external customer engagement (e.g. MAJCOMs, Air Staff, etc.) in order to: collect capability priorities, shortfalls and gaps; communicate this information to AFRL TD/FDs; advise TD/FDs on the alignment of TD/FD-specific S&T programs with customer priorities; and provide regular assessments of the GIISR S&T portfolio’s robustness in order to inform and synchronize overall AFRL investment priorities across the TD/FDs.
Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship.
- S&E candidates must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an ABET accredited academic institution.
- This position is open to S&E's who qualify for the following occupational series only: 801 General Engineering or 1301 Physical Science or 1515 Operations Research Analyst or 1520 Mathematician or 1529 Mathematical Statistician or 1550 Computer Scientist.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
- This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) critical position requiring Level III Certification in Science and Technology Manager (STM). The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. *Applicants must list all completed APDP certification and status of acquisition corps membership on their resume.
