HQ AFRL seeks to hire a mid-level, DR/DO-03 for the position of Chief, Commander's Action Group (AFRL/CCX) located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH. The incumbent will lead and supervise a team of high-performing individuals in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment providing the AFRL Commander and Front Office Group with executive level support. High-performing DR/DO-02, DR/DO-03 and GS-13/14 candidates currently working in AFRL will be considered for this position.
 
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Leads the day-to-day operations of the AFRL Commander’s Action Group (CAG), providing executive services to the AFRL Commander (CC), Executive Director (CA), Vice Commander (CV), Chief Technology Officer (CT), Command Chief (CCC), and Mobilization Assistant (CR), collectively known as the AFRL Front Office Group (FOG).  
  • Develops and assists the AFRL FOG in formulating enterprise science and technology (S&T) strategic messaging, operational plans, and business processes to increase mission effectiveness. 
  • Provides leadership and advice to HQ AFRL staff, working directly with the AFRL/CC and FOG to support the most urgent and immediate needs while facilitating long term strategies. 
  • Supervises a high performing team, effectively assigning work assignments, exercising personnel / performance management responsibilities, and providing mentorship / career development advice.
  • Develops strategic communication, plans key events, and interfaces with AFRL component directors and staff, higher HQ, MAJCOMs and FIELDCOMs, DOD, legislative, industry and academic leaders, world-class scientists, and other important stakeholders. 
  • Responsible for Command Section briefings / speeches, executive administration, distinguished visitor tours, as well as enterprise and legislative engagements. 
  • Teams closely with staff organizations including AFRL Director of Staff (DS), Plans & Programs (XP), Public Affairs (PA), and all Functional Directorates (FDs). 
  • Plans, coordinates, and moderates Directors’ Staff Meetings as well as other high priority meetings on behalf of AFRL/CC (e.g., Forum to Accelerate S&T, Corporate Forums, Executive Sessions, etc.).  
  • Leads and supports AFRL scientists and engineers managing innovative S&T and next-generation Air Force Systems that act as force multipliers for the warfighter.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DR/DO-02, GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience includes: 1) leadership, 2) tactical and strategic planning, 3) strategic enterprise-level communication and messaging, 4) facilitating connections and relationships, 5) collaboration and teamwork, 6) organizing and executing key events, 7) project management, 8) applying science, technology, and engineering or business management to solve problems in high pressure environments under strict deadlines.
