The Air Force Research Laboratory's 711th Human Performance Wing is at the forefront of integrating ‘omic level datasets with operationally relevant data. By leveraging advanced tools and capabilities, our mission is to accelerate the discovery, development, and deployment of innovative products that enhance warfighter effectiveness, focusing on sensor development and decision superiority.
The Air and Space Biosciences Division of the 711th Human Performance Wing within the Air Force Research Laboratory (711HPW/RHB) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Multi-Omics Research Manager to lead our efforts in exploring multi-omic signatures and managing large-scale research operations involving human subject research. This pivotal role will centralize the management of research operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and cutting-edge outcomes in support of our Airmen and Guardians.
The Multi-Omics Research Manager will partner with seven teams to exploit innovative multi-omic and analytic capabilities for building multi-scale models of individualized Airmen & Guardians with the goal of optimizing health and performance. Efforts that determine the biologic state and underlying response mechanisms are supported by a $1M annual research budget to deliver individualized assessments, enhancements, and applications/technologies to mitigate barriers to performance. Multi-omic research is reinforced by worldclass Genomics and Analytical Chemistry laboratories and leverages a state-of-the-art Information Technology backbone to maximize data storage and analysis capabilities.
Position Duties include but are not limited to:
• Research Leadership: Lead and oversee day-to-day operations of multidisciplinary research projects, coordinating closely with principal investigators. Contribute to research protocol development, manage subject recruitment/consent processes, and oversee sample handling and logistics. Lead and participate in multidisciplinary governmental, industrial, and academic partnerships to propose research that addresses DoD technical gaps through forums such as the Biotechnology Community of Practice and Tri-service Biotechnology Community of practice.
• Business Acumen and Funding Acquisition: Demonstrate a business-minded and entrepreneurial approach to research, identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to secure substantial funding from stakeholders, grant agencies, and industry partners. Drive efforts to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of research initiatives, leveraging innovative strategies to attract investment and support from a diverse array of sources.
• Collaboration and Coordination: Facilitate team meetings and interactions with external collaborators. Coordinate requests for the use of the Multi-Omics Center's assets, including genome sequencing and analytical chemistry capabilities. Steer strategic direction and ensure ethical standards through opportunities to serve on the Institutional Review Board and within the Genomics Community of Practice.
• Data Management and Analysis: Develop and maintain databases, support algorithm and statistical model development, and perform comprehensive statistical analyses. Generate reports, charts, graphs, and tables for research findings.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain effective communication with government officials, grant agencies, and industry representatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and compliance with regulations.

Advanced Academic and Practical Expertise: Possess a doctoral degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field, complemented by substantial experience in multi-omics research and the management of human subjects research. Candidates should have a deep understanding of the latest methodologies and technologies in these areas.

Proven Leadership in Research: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large-scale, multi-disciplinary research projects from inception to completion. Experience should include effective team leadership, project planning, and execution within timelines and budgets.

Data Management and Analytical Mastery: Strong expertise in managing complex datasets, with proficiency in statistical analysis and algorithm development. Candidates should be adept at using statistical software and tools to analyze data and drive research insights. Experience in programing, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence/machine learning is highly desired.
