The Aerospace Physiology Research Section of the 711th Human Performance Wing within the Air Force Research Laboratory (711HPW/RHBFP) is looking for a research physiologist. The RHBFP Section needs to fill the DR-0401-02/03, Research Physiologist Position.

Position Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Serves as an Aerospace Physiology Scientist performing research efforts to support and advise the 711th Human Performance Wing, Biomedical Impact of Air and Space research efforts. Directs research pertaining to current plus future aeromedical and aerospace weapon systems within the medical enterprises evolving around human performance, safety, and health in aerospace environments.
  • Conducts foundational research, both individually and as a technical leader, over a broad range of topics to optimize human health and performance in extreme aerospace environments and with anatomy and physiology, respiratory physiology and sleep medicine.
  • Develops and/or provides supporting data and analysis for recommendations involving biomedical related issues under high altitude, acceleration, thermal or other operational conditions relevant to the USAF and USSF.
  • Develops and reviews human subject research protocols, presentations, technical reports and other science and technology products in support of the Biomedical Impact of Air and Space research area.
  • Develops and applies high-level technical expertise, advanced theory, and evidence-based practice to research design to conduct research; plans and conducts research across a wide range of organizations inside and outside the Laboratory; independently writes research grants and proposals to resolve critical multifaceted problems; and prepares manuscripts, reports, and presentations to disseminate complex technical research results.
  • Establishes collaborative partnerships with academia, industry, other Government agencies and international entities. Assists with efforts to transition research into Air Force policy and practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Flexible Length and Renewable Term Technical Appointments. This appointment type is used to appoint individuals who are not currently DoD civilian employees into any scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematic positions, including technicians, for a period of more than one year but not more than six years.
  • Applicant must be able to pass medical exam to qualify for altitude chamber duties, specifically as it relates to inside observer duties.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position. The incumbent may be subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year or 52 weeks of specialized experience in the next lowest grade in the Federal service or equivalent in an alternate pay system. 
  • These are Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) positions and require a Level 2 certification (Practitioner). The selectee will have 24 months to meet APDP requirements or waiver must be obtained.

· Background in organizing, coordinating, and executing team assignments
· Public Speaking skills highly desired for, but not limited to: project presentation, academic instructor, etc.
