Job Overview

This job announcement will be accepting candidate submissions from April 10, 2024, to May 3, 2024. 

  • A focus of this position is to develop and demonstrate automated/autonomous data processing, decision-making, information communication, and sensor network tasking workflows to evaluate the performance of existing sensor designs as well as to guide the development of new sensing concepts for space-based surveillance in challenging environments.
  • In addition to developing strategies for automated/autonomous sensing, this position conducts technical efforts that analyze, validate, and assess the quality and latency of information that is derived from diverse sensor data sets.
  • This position works closely with an advanced electro-optical and infa-red (EO/IR) sensor development team that is conceptualizing and prototyping state-of-the-art space-based surveillance technologies.
  • There is an opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of teams within AFRL and with other governments, industry, and academic entities in the space community, contributing to sensor development from R&D through design, build, test, launch and flight.
  • The selected candidate would have the opportunity to communicate progress to audiences both verbally at technical conferences and in writing for high impact scientific journals.
  • Candidates would lead or contribute to drafts and revision of technical reports, papers, articles, presentations, and summaries on R&D activities and related efforts.

Required Qualifications

• United States Citizenship
• Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution
• Demonstrated knowledge of application of AI/ML/DL concepts for autonomous decision-making
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
• Ability to pass random drug testing; this is a drug testing designated position
• Must be able to obtain Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Level I (Foundational), Critical, Certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N). The selectee will have 24 months to meet the APDP requirements, or a waiver must be obtained.

Desired Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience at the DR-02/GS-12/GS-13 or equivalent grade level. Specialized experience providing the capacity and skills for working independently, leading collaborative events, working in teams and using these approaches to find and solve complex problems. Such experience may also include training, collaborative process facilitation, innovation design practice, writing background, editing job roles, continuous process improvement credentials, multi-agency liaison work, publishing work in peer-reviewed technical journals, and/or briefings to large groups
  • .For this position, education or experience in the following areas is helpful and desired: deep learning, algorithm design and optimization, ML/DL classification methods, EO/IR and radar imagery, satellite constellation configurations, and space-qualified processors.
