The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Information Directorate, Integration and Operations Division, Communications and Computer Systems Branch (AFRL/RIOS) is seeking to fill the position of DO-0391-01, Telecommunication Specialist in Rome, NY.
As an telecommunications specialist in RIOS, you will perform the following operations and maintenance telecommunications duties along with other IT related duties as assigned:
• Diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer reported incidents for telephony, outside plant, and cable infrastructure problems.
• Perform the installation and maintenance planning and project management activities related to copper and fiber optic cable infrastructure and IT hardware.
• Resolve project installation and maintenance problems by interpreting sketches, drawings, directives, diagrams, communications and computer facility records and technical orders.
• Independently reviews customer work orders for technical relevance, priority and inaccuracies.
• Outside communications manholes and duct systems management: Perform cable locating, digging permits, drawings and geo-spacial documentation in the AF GIS systems.
• Utilizes various communications standards, processes and test equipment associated with IT/Network/Telephony to provide maintainability of systems and equipment.
• Utilize various programs and tools to manage assigned communications systems life cycles.
• Monitor installations and upgrades and provide system quality assurance inspections to ensure availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of all components of the communications systems.
• Provide ongoing technical support to customers to ensure proper functional use of IT equipment/systems.
• Management of communication facility grounding and bonding, AC and DC power requirements, physical security, and environmental monitoring of telecommunications facilities.

Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Applicants must have education in information technology field from a graduate school, technical institute, business school or armed forces school. Or applicants must have experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology. - Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination.
Desired Qualifications
- Must be familiar with and have minimal experience using Microsoft tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Preferred Education: Two year Associates degree in Information Technology (networking, communications, computers), BICSI or similar certification or comprehensive knowledge of EIA/TIA standards.
- Valid drivers license
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Ability to climb ladder (6Ft)
