The Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate (AFRL/RV) is accepting applications for the Interdisciplinary position of Space Vehicles S&T Mission Liaison, Space Vehicles Directorate (RV), Kirtland AFB, NM. Civilian candidates at the DR-III/DR-IV level (or equivalent) will be considered for this position. We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter that works independently, is able to collaborate across multiple organizations, and translate the AFRL/RV vision, mission, and technology across all levels of government, including SAF/SQ, NRO, HQ USSF, SDA, SSC, and other DAF partners, in order to influence major space technical and programmatic activities.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as the Space Vehicles S&T Mission Liaison to the National Capital Region (NCR).
- Serves as the key interface for AFRL/RV to all levels of government including SAF/SQ, NRO, HQ USSF, SDA, SSC, and other DAF partners
- Speaks on behalf of AFRL/RV in executive level meetings.
- Builds collaborative relationships across broad functional and technical areas and engages with leaders at the national and/or international level.
- Identifies, proposes, and develops timely mission relevant solutions while leveraging national/international collaborations.
- Utilizes situational awareness to promote competitive positioning of the organization.
- Has broad and substantial impact on organizational decisions affecting internal/external organizations and relationships.
- Builds coalitions to establish integrated approaches that meet overall organizational mission requirements.
- Supports AFRL/RV Leadership when they are TDY to the NCR, in order to build partnerships, collaborations, and opportunities to communicate AFRL/RV programs, projects, and technology.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary professional science and engineering knowledge in development of space technologies.
- Provides technical support to DAF partners to establish requirements for single- and multi-domain capabilities transiting to/through/from the space domain and utilizing space assets.
- Must have a technical degree, preferably a graduate level degree in a hard science or engineering. Occasional TDY’s are required for accomplishment of assigned duties.
- Participates in conferences with personnel from both within and outside of the DoD when necessary.

Required Qualifications

- Applicants must possess a TS/SCI clearance
- A bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DR-01/GS-11 for DR-02; DR-02/GS-13 for DR-03; DR-03/GS-14 for DR-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes experience in areas of science and engineering-related disciplines.
- Applicants Must have experience and/or knowledge of the programs, projects, missions, and vision of AFRL/RV within the last 5-10 years. Must be familiar with space and multidomain mission sets, customer requirements, and industry partners.
- Position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience in teaming, partnering, and leading efforts, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
Desired Qualifications
- This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level III Non-Critical certification in Science and Technology Management (STM). The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicants for this position must list any acquisition certifications and status as an acquisition corps member in their resume.
