The Section Chief will:
- Work with the branch leadership team to create and execute the research vision and to lead and manage 8 research engineers
- Participate in team/branch strategic planning
- Advises planning and assignment of work to be accomplished by team members, adjusting priorities, and prepares schedules for the completion of individual work efforts. Provides technical guidance to individual team members, and provides on-the-job training to new employees.
- Oversee the technical, financial, and schedule execution of in-house and contracted research efforts
- Reviews work of individual team members to ensure that it is adequate and meets objectives.
- Ensures operations are sustained (e.g. travel approval, travel waiver/risk assessments, awards writing, suspense tracking, and tour support.
- Oversees the operations of a high-speed ground research facility
- Provides mentorship and guidance to team members regarding research execution

Required Qualifications
- Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution
- Experience in Technical Management and/or Program Management
- Ability to lead a dynamic technical team
- Ability to proactively identify problems or inefficiencies, devise recommended solutions, and enact solutions
- Willingness to tackle new challenges and assignments as they arise
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally to lead and coordinate teams
- This position is a Non-critical Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level II certification in Engineering and Test Management (ETM). The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicants for this position must list any acquisition certifications and status as an acquisition corps member in their resume.
- Must be able to receive and maintain a Top Secret US Government security clearance

Desired Qualifications
- Professional science or engineering (S&E) Master’s degree from an accredited academic institution
- Proven project management or group/team leadership experience
- Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) experience or previous certifications
- Experience with digital engineering and system integration.
- Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn operations of high speed wind tunnels
- Experience with ground research or test
- Ability to mentor engineers
- Proven ability to identify and resolve issues or inefficiencies
- Proven willingness to tackle new challenges and assignments
- Proven effective communication skills
- Experience with component design and analysis
