The Radio Frequency Electronic Warfare Branch (AFRL/RYWE) seeks to hire a Senior-level, DR-1550-03 Computer Scientist in the discovery, development, and transition of next-generation Electronic Warfare concepts in Dayton, OH.

This position is open to current AFRL Civilian Employees at the DR-II (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-III (or equivalent grade) level candidates eligible for reassignment.

The salary range for this position including Dayton, OH locality is DR-III ($125,239 - $176,984).

The incumbent will:

  • Represent the Branch as a leader and subject matter expert to internal/external organizations regarding computational aspects of AI/ML applications in electronic warfare.
  • Apply substantial depth of analysis, expert knowledge, and mastery of advanced computer science methods, theories, and standards to complex computational challenges.
  • Possess knowledge/understanding of DoD-wide operational policies/procedures, USAF MAJCOM/COCOM needs, and technological advances in computing, information technology, and related fields within industry, Government labs, US Allies, and academia.
  • Assist with translating capability gaps/needs into focused technology/capability development plans, focusing on computational solutions.
  • Assist with technology transition plans with receiving agents such as HAF, SAF/AQ, MAJCOMs, AFLCMC, etc., ensuring smooth integration of computational technologies.
  • Coordinate with Branch Technical Advisor (TA) to establish visionary programs/projects, prioritize funding/technical goals, and support oral/written briefs/documents to support Branch/Division mission and programmatic requirements, focusing on computer science aspects.
  • Assist with synchronization of Branch research with Branch TA, ensuring alignment with overall computational goals.
  • Assist with technical and strategic guidance/leadership to in-house/contracted research and development efforts, focusing on computer science applications and solutions.
  • Ensure assigned programs/projects meet cost, schedule, and performance requirements/objectives, with a strong emphasis on computational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide inputs to Branch Chief on resource needs (i.e. personnel, materiel, funding, etc.); seek/develop/support collaborative work and partnership agreements, particularly related to computer science expertise.
  • Assist with technical reviews of assigned Branch programs/projects and attend relevant technical meetings, symposiums, and interagency technical exchanges, representing the computer science perspective.
  • Knowledge of cognitive algorithms for adaptive EW techniques, resource management, and decision-making under uncertainty; advanced data structures for representing and reasoning about EW situations; software architectures for implementing cognitive EW systems; test and evaluation methodologies for cognitive algorithms; simulation technologies for modeling complex EW scenarios; and in-depth understanding of the capabilities and limitations of cognitive approaches in EW.

  • Applicants must have least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DR-II, or equivalent in other pay systems.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET / SCI security clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
  • This position has been designated as a Non-Critical Acquisition Position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) requiring Engineering and Technical Management (N) Level/Tier 2(Practitioner) Non-Critical certification. The selectee must meet or be capable of achieving acquisition certification within 60 months after assignment. This position also requires the employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 continuous learning points every 24 months.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of Open Systems standards such as AMS-GRA, Big Iron

  • Experience developing and maintaining close relationships with academia and other Government agencies for basic research
