The Passive Electro Optic and Infrared Sensing Branch (AFRL/RYMT), Sensors Directorate seeks to hire a Senior-level Technical Advisor in Dayton, OH.
The position is open to candidates currently at the DR-02 (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-03 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as the Branch Technical Advisor, Direct Passive Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) technology development program/process formulation, implementation, and execution to achieve the mission goals at the Laboratory/multi-agency level.
- Build collaborative relationships across broad functional and technical areas and engage with leaders at the national and/or international level.
- Lead/manage all aspects of subordinate/team efforts with complete accountability for mission and program success.
- Develop innovative approaches which significantly expand the scientific knowledge base and/or the overall effectiveness of the organization.
- Develop innovative solutions that exploit emerging passive EO and IR sensing technology and foster an environment of technology exploitation to increase passive and IR sensing capabilities.
- Formulate short- and long-term teaming/collaboration strategies across organizations/disciplines.
- Direct in-house work efforts in passive EO/IR technology areas, including hyperspectral sensing and polarimetric sensors, spectral-temporal processing, and infrared sensing.
- Author and direct authoritative reports, documents, and presentations integrating multiple disciplines.

- Position will be filled using occupational series within the SCIENTIST AND ENGINEERS career field. Applicants must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards for the position being filled. - Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DR-02, or equivalent in other pay systems. This includes experience of developing, maturing, and/or producing EO/IR sensing technologies; formulating, overseeing, and executing technical research and development programs; leadership of cross-organizational teams; and mentoring engineers & scientists.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with access to SCI and SAP security clearance.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
- Technical expertise in military EO/IR sensing technology development, maturation, and/or production for airborne and space-based applications.
- Experience in the development and coordination of classified projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading matrixed teams across organizations.
- Ability to perform TDY travel approximately 20% on average.
- This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N); experience requirement is 4 years; and the selectee will have 60-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. *Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications in their resume.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Top Secret/SCI and Special Access Programs.
- Experience collaborating with Department of Air Force and/or US Space Force EO/IR sensing technology stakeholders, such as Program Offices, higher headquarters policy departments, other DoD offices, and related commercial industry partners.
- Knowledge and experience with Department of Air Force and/or US Space Force technology transition stakeholders, including Air Force Research Laboratory, headquarters organizations, and Major Commands.
- Experience developing partnerships with external sponsors of technology development, such as DARPA.
- Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead teams, build consensus, and resolve conflicts/problems across a collaborative community.
- Ability to deal with complex, nonstandard situations and environments.
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities, define solutions, and iterate towards increased mission effectiveness.
