The Simulation, and Analysis Branch, AFRL/RJES seeks to hire a DR-III/IV Branch Chief in Kirtland AFB, NM.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Advises and supports AFRL Space Warfare Directorate portfolio leads, program managers, and team leads in the evaluation of advanced space technologies through simulations, mathematical modeling, experimental design, measurement and systems analyses to improve efficiency and effectiveness and to assess and mitigate design risks related to cost, time, and quality constraints.
- Conducts and leads analytic efforts to quantify mission-level capability needs against baseline space architecture concepts supporting Space Superiority, Space Domain Awareness, and Space Force Enhancement mission areas.
- Leverages capability-needs-quantification frameworks and relevant optimization techniques to assess integrated space domain technology concepts along with associated Design Reference CONOPS, CONEMPS, and architectures against parametrically-defined capability gaps.
- Organizes, leads and conducts military utility analysis for emerging space vehicle technologies, concepts, systems, system components, or experiments using modeling and simulation tools to assist in critical inquiry, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and scientific methodology.
- Builds and maintains strong ties to the broader space analysis community across AFRL, DoD, and outside customers.

Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
- Must have earned a bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related discipline from an ABET accredited academic institution.
- Must have at least 10 years of experience, in addition to educational experience, in any of the following related areas: Operations Research, System Modeling and Analysis, Applied Optimization

Desired Qualifications
- Possess a master’s degree or higher in a STEM related discipline, preferably Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, or Computer Science, from an accredited academic institution.
- Experience defining and/or performing Military Utility Analysis (MUA) studies and/or Analysis of Alternative (AoA) studies.
- Experience working with or within the Department of War research community.
- Possess a master’s degree or higher in a STEM related discipline, preferably Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, or Computer Science, from an accredited academic institution.
- Experience defining and/or performing Military Utility Analysis (MUA) studies and/or Analysis of Alternative (AoA) studies.
- Experience working with or within the Department of War research community.
- Specific experience working in the various space mission areas: Space Control, Space Domain Awareness (SDA), Communication, Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT), and/or Tactical Surveillance,
- Reconnaissance and Tracking (TacSRT).
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to accomplish work through technical and administrative direction to others.
- Ability to provide a working environment that facilitates cooperation and teamwork and fosters the development of others.
Additional Information
- The ideal candidate will have a broad specialization in operations research methods, modeling, simulation, and analysis at the mission and/or campaign level, space systems analysis for mission design or on-orbit operations, design of experiments, multivariate statistical modeling, data visualization / story telling / dashboard development.
- The candidate will have demonstrated experience in astrodynamics, data science (R, Python, Plotly, Matlab, JMP, Dataiku, Tableau), artificial intelligence (machine learning, deep learning, large language models, generative artificial intelligence), software development (DevSecOps, Git, agile processes), process modeling, optimization algorithms, mathematical modeling.
