The AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to hire an General Engineer (0801), Aerospace Engineer (DR-0861), Mechanical Engineer (DR-0830), Computer Engineer (DR-0854), or Computer Scientist (DR-1550) for a mid-level, DR-02 position in the Strategy Division (RWS), Modeling Simulation and Analysis Branch (RWSA) Lethality and Validation Section (RWSAL) at Eglin, AFB in Valparaiso, Florida. The ideal candidate will have experience leading technical advancements in the area of decentralized computing related to the integration of high-fidelity and engineering-level computational codes/frameworks. Beneficial experience or education may include the following: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Software Systems, Distributed Processing, Synchronous and Asynchronous Simulation Execution, High-Fidelity Physics Based Computational Codes, and/or Engineering-Level Lethality/Vulnerability Architectures/Frameworks. In addition, proficient communication skills are highly desired to act as coordinator between multiple projects ensuring alignment with overall mission and organizational goals
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- - Leading lethality and weapons effects software toolset development and determining how M&S can be advanced to meet objectives of Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiative across all domains, commands, and services.
- - Developing next generation lethality and weapons effects M&S solutions that serve as technology transition initiatives for the tri-service weaponeering community.
- - Managing software efforts aimed at utilizing geographically separated networked computing resources to execute highly parallel and/or serial simulation techniques.
- - Identify requirements for complex time-step controlled software requiring execution coordination between multiple codes running in parallel and/or serial.
- - Identification and analysis of highly complex software and systems of software.
- - Software configuration control.
- - Verification and validation of software and software systems.
- - Interfaces with technical experts in relevant research areas to maintain cognizance and awareness of state-of-the-art advancements in computational technologies and their application to the development of advanced weapon systems.
- - Ensure strategic alignment with the National Defense Strategy and Branch, Division, Directorate, and AFRL missions for all technical work; Advocates and represents the Branch through interactions with AFRL, DoD, DOE, industry, academia, and technical societies.
- - Provides data and written analysis for input to scientific publications and assists in preparing and reviewing contractual documents and efforts.
- - Assist in professional development activities for researchers on processes, procedures, practices, and specific task/job techniques.
- - Establishes and maintains relationships with technical collaborators, financial, contracting, and process teams to ensure timely and effective execution of Branch research programs.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance. Top Secret clearance is desired, but not required--at this time
- Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution. Applicant must list degree information on resume to include any professional military education.
- Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-01/GS-11 or equivalent grade level Specialized Experience
- This is an Acquisition Position. The selectee will have 24- months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicant must list all completed acquisition certification on resume.
- Excellent technical communication ability to include written reports, oral presentations, professional interchange forums, and other forms of publication.
- Performs duties in a professional, responsve and cooperative manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with high-fidelity physics based and engineering-level weapons effects models, architectures, and/or toolsets
- Application of software integration practices providing unified application software solutions
- Direct knowledge of software architecture runtime simulation event handling over a distributed network with real-time execution
- Knowledge of weapon/target interaction physics specific to fragmentation, airblast, penetration, and/or structural response
- Software development experience on both Windows and Linux operating systems; software configuration control
- Experience with program management: budgeting, planning and organizing, milestone identification and tracking, reporting, S&E level contractor interactions, briefing technical concepts to senior leadership and peers at technical symposia
