RQ is a system integration directorate that explores new concepts and capabilities built on advances in engines, power, control systems, autonomy, aerodynamics, airframes, and rockets. RQ also partners with other AFRL directorates to incorporate additional technologies under development to produce AF capabilities.
RQSA works with stakeholders to develop comprehensive modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) plans utilizing several possible types of MS&A activities (constructive, virtual, wargames, etc.) and potentially involving analysis focused across a broad spectrum of the MS&A pyramid (engineering, engagement, mission, campaign level analysis)
RQSA creates new analytical tools, processes, and methodologies to advance the state of the art in Modeling, Simulation and Analysis (MS&A), and conducts analyzes to help AF, AFRL, and RQ identify those advanced aerospace technologies and next generation concepts that will create the best value capability for the warfighter.
This position as a member of the Modeling, Simulation and Analysis branch requires an experienced and versatile candidate with strong technical, communication, and leadership skills. Candidates should be equally adept at leading teams and developing models and software. The responsibilities include the following:
Designs, develops & uses modeling, simulation & analysis tools/techniques to support development & evaluation of advanced aerospace vehicle concepts & technologies.
Lead and/or support modeling and simulation activities from inception and design to implementation, testing, execution and reporting
Advance the state-of-the-art in digital engineering (DE) and modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) by applying the latest software technologies and engineering techniques
Design and develop models of technologies, environments, and system concepts; integrate and validate simulation software.
Elicits requirements from stakeholders to develop and optimize analyzes and test plans. Conducts simulation and analysis events, collects & analyzes data, extracts results & generates analysis documentation. Reports on results.
Conceives & conducts original studies, beginning with pre-simulation analysis, continuing through evaluation of desired end products.
Maintain and update legacy models and simulation architectures as needed to support research and development
Lead and/or support the acquisition of MS&A tools and services through government contracts

Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical discipline from an ABET accredited academic institution. At least four years of professional (i.e., through full-time employment, internship, freelance contract, or master’s level practicum) modeling and simulation experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
Practical experience or exposure to scientific M&S applications
This is an APDP position requiring Tier/Level II Practitioner Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management (N). The selectee will have 24 months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Desired Qualifications
• A master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical/computer engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline is highly desired.
• Software development experience with a modern object-oriented programming language with a preference for C++ experience, familiarity with GitLab and/or Cmake.
• Knowledge of model-based systems engineering methods, tools and techniques, including experience with tools such as AFSIM, Matlab/Simulink, Cameo, SysML.
• Linux Operating systems experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and planning skills with practical experience on projects related to Modeling, simulation and analysis of aerospace concepts.
