The Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate, Geospace Technology Division, Geospace Communications & Navigation Branch at Kirtland AFB NM is accepting applications for the position of Chief, Timing and Navigation Technologies Section (RVBYT).  AFRL civilian candidates at the DR-II/III/IV level will be considered for this position. No PCS will be paid. This is a lateral reassignment. A position description is below.
 
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise a team of scientists and engineers involved in developing quantum sensing, future inertial navigation, timing and time transfer systems with GPS-like accuracy that can operate in contested environments using advanced precision and atomic physics. 
  • Supervisory training is required as the successful candidate will conduct performance appraisals, awards, and other administrative actions to include time card approvals, travel orders, publication approvals and similar type activities. 
  • The position requires participation and contribution as appropriate in branch and division level planning meetings and in programmatic and financial reviews across the projects within the section.
  • Qualifications of the successful candidate include: dynamically seeks out new collaborations and opportunities for matrixed personnel, matching needs and expertise. 
  • Assists project managers in technical insight with a view of the section mission to ascertain the technical feasibility of project goals, cost, and efficiency. 
  • Works with project managers to determine and oversee personnel, facilities, activities, and infrastructure required to achieve rapidly changing project requirements while remaining in compliance with Space Force regulations. 
  • Ensures section members are trained by coordinating both formal training and ensuring on-the-job training, mentoring, and hands-on experience in project development, execution, and management are provided.  
  • Ability to manage a large section of personnel is a plus.
This position is expected to be a lateral move for internal candidates with the potential of a salary increase due toincreased responsibilities, if justified.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance
  • Position requires a science/engineering technical background which enables a general understanding of the work being performed by the section.
  • Must possess a professional (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution.
  • Lab-202 Science and Technology Program Management course within 6 months to 1 year after hire.
