The Electronic Devices Branch (AFRL/RYDD), Sensors Directorate seeks to hire a mid-level Senior Electronics Engineer, DR-03 in Dayton, OH. This position is open to candidates currently at the DR-02 (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-03 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment.
The incumbent of this position will serve as a Semiconductor Device Engineer/Scientist and will lead diverse and multidisciplinary electronics research and development programs that are critical to the advancement of current and future Air Force sensor systems and mission capability. Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performs in-house and contractual exploratory development activities in the highly complex areas of solid state semiconductor components and integrated circuits (lCs) for avionics applications.
- Utilizes professional engineering/scientific knowledge and applies advanced engineering/scientific theories, concepts, principles, and processes within the incumbent's technical area of responsibility.
- Applies substantial depth of analysis and expertise to conduct critical experimental and theoretical work to advance novel semiconductor devices.
- Improves solid state device modeling and simulation techniques, device fabrication techniques, and/or device characterization methods.
- Advances state of the art in the miniaturization of high performance microwave and millimeter wave avionics components.
- Develops innovative approaches to define and resolve highly complex problems.
- Collaborates with a broad range of functional and technical area experts to develop new concepts and methodologies. Consults and provides authoritative advice on complex topics to higher echelons, other engineers/scientists, and industrial organizations within technical areas of expertise.
- Attends inter-agency meetings concerned with developmental planning in the technical area assigned.
- Authors authoritative technical papers in the area of semiconductor devices and lCs for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation at scientific symposia.

Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship
- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DR-02, or equivalent in other pay systems.
- Applicants must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain a SECRET security clearance, as a condition of employment.
- This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level /Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management; and the selectee will have 60 months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. *Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications in their resume.
- The position is eligible for situational telework and will require regular classified engagements and in-person meetings that cannot always be scheduled around a regular/recurring telework schedule. The employee must live within the commuting area of Wright-Patterson AFB.
- Technical expertise in semiconductor device fabrication and characterization.
- Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills for technical and senior leader audiences.
Specialized experience is experience working with multidisciplinary electronics R&D programs in solid state semiconductor devices and/or integrated circuits (ICs).
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in an area relevant to the modeling, design, processing, and/or characterization of semiconductor devices.
- Experience in modeling, design, processing, and/or characterization of semiconductor devices.
- Familiarity with common modeling and simulation tools such as Silvaco Atlas, Synopsys Sentaurus Device, Synopsys Taurus Medici, COMSOL Multiphysics, and Ansys HFSS.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor device characterization.
- Understanding of semiconductor material and epitaxial layer synthesis.
- Understanding of the semiconductor fabrication process.
- Understanding of semiconductor devices and circuit design.
