The AFRL Foundational Technologies Directorate seeks to hire a motivated and experienced senior-level General Engineer (0801), Materials Engineer (0806), Electrical Engineer (0850), Electronics Engineer (0855), Physicist (1310), Chemist (1320), or related Job Series to serve as the Electronic Materials Branch Chief (REEE) in the Photonic, Electronic & Soft Materials Division (REE) of the Foundational Technologies Directorate (RE) in Air Force Research Laboratory. This position will be filled at the DR-04 level and is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as Chief of the Electronic Materials Branch, leading a team of approximately 25 government and military researchers and program managers in addition to approximately 60 contractors

  • Directs two sections, one centered on the modeling, characterization and evaluation of electronic materials while the second focuses on the growth, processing and integration of electronic materials for next generation electronic components and systems

  • Applies expert knowledge to in-house and extramural research, development, and demonstration of electronic, opto-electronic, photonic, & quantum materials & processes for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, & Reconnaissance & electronic warfare (EW) applications

  • Responsible for the supervision & professional development of government branch members

  • Oversight involves a broad scope of technical objectives & areas, each with their own requirements & unique material classes & processes to improve electronic components within electronic subsystems

  • Maintains directorate's competency to understand & connect processing, structure, property, & performance paradigm needed for electronic materials development

  • Works collaboratively with other branches & external organizations to develop, mature, & transition highest priority materials & products needed by the USAF, USSF, and/or DoD

  • Leads transition of developed technologies to legacy, developmental & future USAF, USSF, and/or DoD system components to increase system performance & efficiency, reduce cost, and/or accelerate manufacturing avenues

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship

  • Special Sensitive Position designation (Top Secret), must have a current Secret security clearance and be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance

  • Must have Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management or obtain within 60 months of assignment

  • Must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position

  • Selectee is required to submit annual Confidential Financial Disclosure (OGE Form 450)

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing

  • Experience as a government supervisor and/or team lead managing a diverse group of employees (various labor series, academic degrees, and job skill certifications)
  • Strong project management skills with experience tracking and managing cost, schedule, and performance
  • Extensive planning, budgeting, development, and execution of basic research, exploratory development, and advanced development efforts
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with research personnel and senior leaders
