The AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to fill a mid-level DR-0801-04, Principal General Engineer, in the Advanced Concepts Division (RWC) at Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Florida. The ideal candidate will have deep technical and programmatic depth planning and executing advanced weapon technology development and transitioning mature weapon technology into partner, inter-agency, and Joint weapon system acquisition programs. They will have deep technical knowledge related to the various weapon subsystems, a multidisciplinary focus related to system & platform integration, and operational context related to employment and military utility. They will have experience with Digital Material Management and Operations Analysis as it relates to Science and Technology (S&T). The ideal candidate will also have extensive program management experience developing spend plans, actively managing obligations/expenditures, ensuring performance deliverables, managing integrated master schedules, developing contracting packages, and leading small high-performing teams in a highly classified environment.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Leads and directs research, development, and demonstration of complex, advanced technologies for air-delivered weapon systems and subsystems.
- Directs and manages the translation of requirements and plans directly to research, development, and integration work in functional areas including, air-delivered weapons, aircraft/weapon integration, kill mechanisms, and weapon subsystems.
- Applies air-to-air and air-to-ground weapon employment experience, advanced theories, concepts, and principles associated with exploratory and advanced research and engineering development where little or no precedence exists.
- Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with user and intelligence communities and applies both technical and program management experience to optimize technical development efforts to better meet user needs.
- Orchestrates joint and inter-agency working groups and meetings. Formulates short and long-term teaming/collaboration strategies across disciplines/organizations to include funding considerations. Keeps higher management informed on team and portfolio progress.
- Teams with Branch Chief and Branch Technical Leaders to generate Branch-level business plans aligning resources of the Directorate's strategic plan with Division programs.

- This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The successful candidate must have the ability to attain the level of Practitioner in APDP Engineering and Technical Management (N). - Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution

- Must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the DR-III/GS-14 or equivalent grade level in other pay systems. Specialized experience is knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of engineering and their practical applications.
- Must file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
Desired Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience with primary duties in aerial delivered weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation.
- At least 4 years of technical experience in related weapon systems/sub-systems technical areas, and a firm understanding of system engineering principles.
- Ability to proactively develop system capability and allocate technology component goals for future weapon system concepts meeting defined or expected warfighter requirements.
- At least 8 years experience with budgeting, planning, milestone identification, milestone tracking, risk management, budget execution, reporting, and contractor interactions.
- Understanding of Digital Material Management and Operations Analysis as they relate to weapons development and collaborative environments.
- Experience interfacing and collaborating across the Department of Defense and Industry research, acquisition, and operational community.
- Experience leading cross-functional/multidisciplined teams to achieve significant milestones, execute test activities, and/or collaborate with transition partners.
- Experience preparing and briefing complex technical concepts to senior leadership and peers, in dynamic forums, to drive major project decisions.
- Experience cultivating a professional, respectful environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
- Master of Science Degree in Engineering/Scientific program from an accredited school.
