The AFRL Rocket Propulsion Division (AFRL/RQR), Aerospace Systems Directorate, seeks to fill a mid-level position at DR-02 or DR-03 levels (depending on qualifications and experience) as Senior Planner. The position is located at the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB, CA.

For more than 60 years, the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB has contributed to several technology developments in rocket engines, including those of Saturn, Titan, Space Shuttle, and all major intercontinental ballistic missiles and current space launchers. Today, the site continues to enable technology leaps in hypersonics, solid rocket boosters, in-space propulsion, and liquid rockets for defense and commercial space in support for the Air & Space Forces.

We are searching for a high-performing, highly-motivated individual with a technical background and experience in program management in defense acquisitions to lead planning of large scientific portfolios.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as cross-divisional Senior Planner for the AFRL Rocket Laboratory.
  • Interfaces with directorate-level Senior Planners to support DAF planning, programming, and budgeting activities.
  • Leads reviews and processes to develop current and out-year plans to resource multiple technical portfolios and programs.
  • Leads the development of budget year plans across divisions.
  • Develops, reports, and maintains program baselines.
  • Advises division chief on program execution and financial strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • B.S. degree in a technical field of relevance for the duties of this position.

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in engineering or business management.
  • Experience with technology development cycles, finances, and program management for defense acquisition.
  • Basic engineering knowledge of rocket technology systems.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Experience in modern aspects of data mining, data visualization, and data presentation to technical management audiences.
  • Genuine interest in working with a diverse team to solve multi-disciplinary applied engineering problems and advance the mission of the Air & Space Forces.
  • Experience in managing large technical programs.
