HQ AFRL seeks to fill a DR-04 Principal General Engineer Deputy Director of Engineering position located within the Engineering Directorate (EN). Responsible for program management and systems engineering policy across AFRL. Supports Director of Engineering in executing airworthiness, STEM and Digital Transformation responsibilities.
 
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Provides support to the Director and responsible to serve as Acting Director when needed.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the directorate and supports development of strategy and its execution for the directorates areas of responsibility, which include Program Management (PM), Systems Engineering (SE), Airworthiness, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Outreach.
  • Serves as voting member on AFRL groups and boards and committees at the AFRL, AFMC and Air Force level.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of policy, process, tools and training for AFRL in the areas of SE, PM, airworthiness, space, and STEM Outreach.
  • Guides the efforts to digitally transform the way the directorate operates, appropriately adjust directorate policies, and deploy modern capabilities AFRL-wide to enhance S&T mission execution.
  • Serves as Deputy Chair of AFRLs APDP Council, responsible for approving requests regarding position coding, certification, course fulfillments and experience adjudication.
  • Serves as Chief of Records (CoR) for the directorate.
  • Assists the Director with personnel responsibilities, to include, awards packages, hiring actions, and personnel ratings and assessments.
  • Promotes a culture where Intellectual Property (IP) is developed, documented, protected, and rewarded.
  • Reviews technical publications as part of technical publication review process. Utilizes scientific/engineering knowledge to assist in IP transfer, transition, or commercialization.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Special Sensitive Clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade of position being advertised, or equivalent in other pay systems
  • Unofficial transcripts are required at the time of application.
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Engineering and Technical Management, Practitioner level.
  • The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained.
  • Position will be filled using occupational series within the SCIENTIST AND ENGINEERING career field. Applicant must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled.
