The AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate seeks to hire a motivated and experienced senior-level General Engineer (0801), Materials Engineer (0806), Electrical Engineer (0850), Electronics Engineer (0855), General Physical Scientist (1301), Physicist (1310), Chemist (1320), or related Job Series to serve as the Division Technical Director in the Photonic, Electronic & Soft Materials Division (RXE) of the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (RX) in Air Force Research Laboratory.  This position will be filled at the DR-04 level. DR-03s with 1 year of qualifying specialized experience developing strategies to execute basic research, exploratory development, and advanced development efforts, are eligible to apply. Position is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.  This position may be filled as a 5-year Flexible Length Renewable Technical Term Appointment (new government hires, current government term employees, etc.) with the option to later extend or convert to a permanent appointment.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as principal advisor on internal and external technical programs for the division.

  • Leads strategic planning and execution, definition of organizational and program policy, fosters a world-class in-house research activity, champions development of S&T competencies, support for transition of technology, and establishment of appropriate partnerships with academia, industry, and government organizations.

  • Identifies, collects, and assesses technological trends, requirements, priorities, and opportunities for program development and transition to division customer.

  • Contributes to technology and industrial base assessment and provides input to the RXE management team focused on short- and long-range goals and objectives.

  • Works with Directorate Chief Scientist and Chief Engineer as well as other Division Technical Directors to ensure the health of the Directorate’s technical portfolio and the alignment of the portfolio with the strategic goals of the DAF/USSF

  • Guides the division’s research teams to ensure its objectives are aligned with division and directorate priorities while also being integrated with industrial partners.

  • Serves as a main interface on technical matters with other DAF, DOD, government, industry and other kay partners and customers.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship

  • Possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree, in a relevant technical field, from an accredited (or ABET accredited for engineering) academic institution.

  • Special Sensitive Position designation (Top Secret/SCI), must have a current Secret security clearance and be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.

  • Must have Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management or obtain within 60 months of assignment.

  • Selectee is required to submit annual Confidential Financial Disclosure (OGE Form 450).

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
