Job Overview

The AFRL Integrated Capabilities Directorate (AFRL/RS) seeks an experienced security specialist to serve as the S&T Protection Lead within the Integrations & Operations Division (AFRL/RSI).  
 
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs duties as the Science and Technology (S&T) Protection Lead for AFRL/RS. 
  • Works closely with and supports AFRL/RS Chief Engineer, Chief Scientist, and Scientists/Engineers (S&Es), the Transformational Capabilities Office (TCO), and the VANGAURD team with implementation of S&T Protection requirements outlined in DoDI 5000.83 (Technology and Program Protection to Maintain Technological Advantage) and local guidance. 
  • Advises the AFRL/RS S&T Protection Chair/Working Group on all security-related S&T Protection matters. 
  • Works with the S&T Protection Lead in orchestrating initial/annual Fundamental Research reviews and Critical Technology Element (CTE) reviews. 
  • Assists S&T Managers and technical subject matter experts with identifying CTE, and countermeasures to protect the CTE.
  • Establishes liaison with Intelligence, AFOSI, and other external personnel and organizations involved in collection/assessment of threat information related to  AFRL/RS S&T efforts. 
  • Facilitates accomplishment of threat assessment requests. 
  • Reviews threat assessment reports and other information and provides threat mitigation advice.
  • Assists with development of S&T Protection Plans. 
  • Develops S&T Protection-related training. 
  • Conducts OPSEC reviews of research-related documents submitted for public release. 
  • Assists with identification of S&T-related OPSEC Critical Information and Indicators. 
  • Performs S&T Protection related risk review/assessment duties to support collaboration/contracts with Industry, Academia, etc., including reviews of contract documentation for appropriate S&T Protection guidance. 
  • Assists with security risk assessment processes to protect AFRL/RS personnel located at off-installation locations.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated positions. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DO-02/GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems.  
  • Ability to obtain and maintain two (2) Security Professional Education Development (SPED) security certifications (IAW AFI 36-2645):  Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) and Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC).
