Job Overview

This is a Modified Term Appointment NTE 5 years. Management may extend to up to 6 years with proper approval. Employee selected under a Modified Term Appointment may be converted to a career appointment. (Management discretion).

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Works daily with principal investigators to guide the research and development activities across space domain awareness, cyber operations, and digital engineering focus areas to overcome technical challenges and mitigate performance risks.
  • Develops recommendations for new procedures for technology management and HPC system utilization.
  • Develops implementation plans from Director guidance to meet technology insertion goals. Establishes, revises or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives and organization design for the staff as necessary to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission
  • accomplishments, promote team building, implement quality improvements, or in response to concerns with regulatory compliance and/or customer requirements.
  • Serves as senior advisor to MHPCC personnel on related technology portfolio issues. Architects acquisition strategies as leader of Integrated Product Teams and leads contract award processes for systems under design or consideration for inclusion in the MHPCC boundary.
  • Approves of HPC system architectures. Communicates the value of Defense Supercomputing Resource Center to external parties and gathers requirements for HPC support among users.
  • Develops and monitors utilization tracking mechanisms to maximize system use and user satisfaction.
  • Relocation costs or other incentives may be available and considered by the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution 
  • Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-01/GS-11 for DR-02 or DR-02/GS-13 for DR-03 or equivalent grade level.  Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Critical Sensitive security clearance
  • This is an APDP position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management (N). This is a Critical Acquisition Position. Selectee must execute, as a condition of appointment, a written agreement to remain in Federal service in this position for at least three years. In signing such agreement, the employee does not forfeit any
    employment rights, nor does such agreement alter any other terms or conditions of employment.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug
    testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited academic institution preferably in  electrical engineering or computer engineering.  Will also consider computer science, data science, physics, mathematics, or similar degrees.
  • At least 5 years of experience in science and technology engineering role, preferably with understanding of supercomputing technology and applications of software on high performance computing systems.
