The HQ Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Commander’s Action Group (CCX) seeks to fill the mid-level, DO-0301-02 position of Communication Lead/Action Officer (AO) located within the HQ AFRL at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the Communication Lead/Action Officer (AO) for the AFRL Commander’s Action Group (CAG), working with internal and external organizations to develop talking points and briefing materials for the AFRL Commander for various internal and external events and engagements.
  • Utilizes program management, communication, and leadership skills to develop and assist the AFRL Commander (CC), Executive Director (CA), Deputy Commander (CD), Chief Technology Officer (CT), Deputy TEO for Space (CJ), Mobilization Assistant (CR), Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Command Chief (CCC), collectively known as the AFRL Front Office Group (FOG), in formulation of enterprise research science & technology (S&T) strategic messaging and communications products for its stakeholders (AFRL 2-Ltrs, MAJCOMs, Air Staff, Air Force, Space Force, DoD, Congress, industry, international and academic partners).
  • Teams/cross-trains with other CAG AOs, FOG support staff, and enterprise-wide teams to ensure logistics and coordination of AFRL FOG remarks at events run smoothly (e.g., virtual platform links, video/audio checks, reservations, invitations, agenda development, protocol support, tours, logistics, etc.).
  • Coordinates and builds multidisciplinary teams for preparation of the AFRL/CC to speak confidently on various topics. Coordinates and leads preparation sessions and the preparation packages for the AFRL/CC for internal and external speaking engagements.
  • Leads the Engagement Review Process for speaking engagement inquiries for the AFRL/CC.
  • Coordinates information gathering, reviews with PA, vets, evaluates, and tracks the strategic importance of speaking engagements and ensures that engagements are accepted, delegated, or declined appropriately.
  • Socializes speaking engagements in the Strategic Communications Working Group (SCWG) and with Legal (JA).
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of AFRL enterprise and the strategic alignment of the AFRL Science & Technology (S&T) portfolio.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR/DO-01/GS-11 or equivalent grade level. Specialized experience in one or more of the following: 1) organizing and executing events, 2) tactical and strategic planning, 3) facilitating connections and relationships, 4) collaboration and teamwork, and 5) leadership.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
