The AFRL Integrated Capabilities Directorate, Architecture Design Integration and Evaluation Division, Architecture Program Integration Branch is seeking to fill a non-supervisory branch senior engineer position at Nellis AFB, Nevada. This position will support a team of civilian and active duty engineers, program managers and operators serving within the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (C3BM) Operational Response Team (ORT). The AFRL/RSAI mission is to explore ways to integrate new architectural designs into current fleet and generates evidence necessary to transition capabilities into various programs of record.

Position duties include but are not limited to:

  • Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of senior management.
  • Applies expert knowledge and advanced technical theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to ensure assigned projects/processes remain consistent with program objectives, costs, schedules, performance criteria, and existing policies.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary science and engineering work in areas such as materials, mechanical, electrical and digital engineering to implement sound Science and Technology Systems Engineering (SE) practices.
  • Applies diverse practices, techniques, and processes to identify and resolve issues, as well as ensure resolutions are consistent with program objectives, existing policies, procedures, and best practices. 
  • Utilize systems design expertise to assist in the development, maintenance and modernization of policies and processes, instilling cost, schedule, performance, and risk management rigor and discipline.
  • Provides technical guidance to research and/or scientific teams to foster collaboration, promote synergy, encourage innovation, and ensure engineering rigor. 
  • Develops innovative approaches and solutions to exploit emerging technology and fosters an environment of technology exploitation. 
  • Cultivates and sustains a professional atmosphere of cooperation, cohesion and teamwork. 
  • Collaborates, interacts, coordinates, communicates and/or directly provides counsel to senior level stakeholders across the AF, DoD, other government agencies, academic, and industry partners both nationally and internationally.
  • Provides analytics to identify, assess, and mature innovative and affordable technology and concepts meeting future AF.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience (SES) at the next lower grade; DR-02/GS-13 to qualify for the DR-03 or DR-03/GS-14 to qualify for the DR-04. 
  • This is a Professional Engineering Position requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering with at least one program that is ABET-accredited IAW Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) 0800 Individual Occupational Requirements found at: httP-s://www.o12m.gov/12olicY.-data-oversight/classification­gualifications/general-schedule-gualification-standards/0800/files/all-P-rofessional-engineering:.P-Ositions-0800.P-df'
  • The incumbent may be subject to random drug testing.
  • PCS may or may not be paid.
  • Positions is n the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) requiring Level/Tier 2(Practitioner) Non-Critical Certification in Engineering and Technical Management. APDP experience requirement is 4 years in the applicable career field; and the selectee will have 60-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications on their resume.
  • Position is eligible for telework but the employee must live within the commuting area of Nellis AFB.

Desired Qualifications

  • An advanced academic degree in a science or engineering (S&E) discipline from an accredited institution is highly desired.
  • To be successful in this position, candidates will need experience in Advanced Battle Management Systems (ABMS), so prior experience in Air Battle Managers would be highly desired.
  • Candidates with this experience will be able to understand agile combat employment communications, aerial data links, radar data feeds, command and control systems, and contingency response groups.
  • Experience as network engineers, network system engineers, program or project management would be beneficial to the candidate of this position.
  • Past positions with exposure to PACAF or INDOPACOM theater or past collaboration with the Defense Information Systems agency should also be highlighted in a candidate's experience.
