The Decision Sciences Branch (AFRL/RYAT), Sensors Directorate seeks to hire a mid-level Technical STEM Researcher, DR-03, in Dayton, OH. This position is open to candidates currently at the DR-02 (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-03 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment. The position will be filled as a General Engineer (0801), Computer Engineer (0854), Electronics Engineer (0855), Mathematician (1520), Computer Scientist (1550), or Physicist (1310) OPM occupational series. The incumbent will serve as the Senior Researcher for the Decision Sciences Branch.

Position duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Serves as a Technical Leader, assisting the branch Technical Advisor and branch chief with ensuring the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Branch. 
  • Recognized expertise in Target Recognition, Classification, Tracking, and ID using Computer Vision and/or Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning.
  • Advise the Technical Advisor and Branch Chief, Decision Sciences Branch, on overall strategy.
  • Perform hands-on RDT&E and will be a Technical Representative Project Manager in multi-domain sensing autonomy. 
  • Promotes and enables research and effective outreach for RY overarching programs to include but not limited to AFIT, MURIs, NDSEG, HBCU/MI, STTR/SBIR including liaisons within the Multi-Domain Sensing Autonomy Division, and other focus areas as assigned. 
  • Performance and operational efficiency for future Department of Air Force systems; integrates world-class research and development programs based upon anticipating Air Force and Space Force requirements and leveraging national activities.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DR-02, or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience includes: design of experiments, sensing decision-making strategies, knowledge representation, sensing data/knowledge management, algorithm development and evaluation.

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret security clearance with access to SCI and SAP, as condition of employment.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing. 
  • Ability to perform TDY travel approximately 10% time
  • Experience in coordination of classified projects and facilities.
  • Technical expertise in sensors and/or spectrum warfare technologies.
  • Significant experience in managing highly technical contracted projects.
  • Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills for technical and senior leader audiences.
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N); experience is 4 years; and the selectee will have 60-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained.

  • The position is eligible for situational telework and will require routine mission travel, regular classified engagements, and in-person meetings that cannot always be scheduled around a regular/recurring telework schedule. Employee must live within the commuting area of Wright-Patterson AFB.
