The AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to hire a General Engineer (DR-0801), Mechanical Engineer (DR-0830), Computer Engineer (DR-0854), Electronics Engineer (DR-0855) for a mid-level, DR-02 position in the Strategy Division (RWS), Modeling Siimulation and Analysis Branch (RWSA), Lethality and Validation Section (RWSAL) at Eglin, AFB in Valparaiso, Florida.  This announcement is for the Weapon Effectiveness Studio (WES) Principal Investigator (PI) position. The ideal candidate will have the experience to plan and manage the integration of high-fidelity physics-based software applications/modules into engineering-level lethality frameworks to achieve multi-fidelity weapons effects solutions. This position will lead modeling activities to analyze the response of structural components and fixed target structures subjected to weapon effects loadings. Duties includes but is not limited to applying machine learning and advanced regression models to develop lethality analysis tools capable of capturing multiple physical responses, project management, risk management, and financial management.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Will function as a Principal Investigator (PI) supporting research and production of the Weapons Effects Studio (WES) project.
  • Performs research for Structural Response modeling and simulation.
  • Leverage modeling & simulation tools to perform research and conduct analysis.
  • Perform lethality assessments using a wide variety of munitions.
  • Conduct experiments and leverage the data to validate M&S models.
  • Work with Portfolio Managers to fund/manage/execute R&D contracts in support of research activities.
  • Leverage software engineering (object-oriented) experience to manage/plan lethality assessment software projects.
  • Publish research in accordance with AFRL policy and Branch Technical Advisor approval/direction. 
  • Serve as coordinator for branch activities and collaborations with DoD as well as other countries, industry and academic organizations.
  • Performs duties in a professional, responsive, and cooperative manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship                                                                                                                                                                      
  •  Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution. Applicant must list degree information on resume to include any professional military education.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-01/GS-11 or equivalent grade level SpecializedExperience
  • This is an APDP coded position requiring Level /Tier 1 (Foundational) Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management (N) This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position.      The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained.  Applicant must list all completed acquisition certification on resume.
