The Facility Engineering Section (AFRL/RYOIE), Sensors Directorate seeks to hire a Mid-level Facility Engineer, DR-0801-02 in Dayton, OH.

This position is open to candidates currently at the DR-01 (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-02 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment.

  • Provides facility engineering support for the Infrastructure Support Branch, AFRL/RYOI, Sensors Directorate. 
  • Serves as the agency’s expert on all matters involving functional workspace, Base facility standards, International Building and Unified Facilities Criteria compliance to ensure compliance with various codes.
  •  Uses multidisciplinary professional engineering knowledge to address architectural and construction issues. 
  • Derives and translates user requirements into projects that describe the intended scope objective, estimated cost, and schedule. 
  • Develops requirements and statements of work for in-house and contracted engineering studies, conceptual designs, and execution of facility projects. 
  • Prioritizes directorate work requests and projects; provides Sensors and Civil Engineering (CE) with fiscal year plans that allow them to align their resources. 
  • Functions as project engineer for assigned projects ensuring user requirements are satisfied. 
  • The scope of projects includes in-house, contracts and/or CE services involving facility repairs, modifications, and upgrades (excluding routine facility maintenance items). 
  • Plans and implements the installation of complex facilities and laboratory renovations; modifying as needed to adapt to novel site characteristics. 
  • Evaluates new or modified facility and laboratory spaces to determine the acceptability of facility modifications, validity of procedures and data, and effectiveness of system performance. 
  • Performs Subject Matter Expert (SME) and/or Contract Officer Representative (COR) duties on assigned RYOI contracts. Ensures all COR/SME training is completed and documented in CORT. 
  • Assists the facility operations and engineering teams in issues that involve CE and contracts.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Applicants must have least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DR-01, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include the ability to interpret, select, and apply a variety of scientific and/or architecture/engineering principles and guidelines. Analyze, investigate, and delineate specifics of the problem encountered and devises ways to meeting technical requirements and develop technical programs to accomplish objectives.
  • Position will be filled using occupational series within the SCIENTIST AND ENGINEERING career field. Applicant must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled.   • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret with access to SCI and SAP security clearance, as condition of employment.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N); the selectee will have 60-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. This position also requires the employee to engage in continuous acquisition learning activities, achieving 80 continuous learning points every 24 months. *Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications in their resume.
  • Position is eligible for situational telework. Employees must live within the commuting area of Wright-Patterson AFB.
  • Experience in coordination of classified projects and facilities.
  • Experience of managing highly technical contracted facility projects.
