The Det 7 Safety Office, AFRL/Det 7/SE, seeks to hire a DR-0803-01, Associate Safety Engineer, at Edwards AFB, CA.
  • Assists managing the AFRL's research, test activities, and system safety programs at AFRL Edwards AFB in accordance with AFI 91-202, AFMC/AFRL Supplements and Mil-Std 882.
  • Helps developing test safety guidance and trains project managers and engineers in various safety processes.
  • Coordinates and integrates system/test safety, occupational safety, explosive safety, bioengineering, environmental management, operations and others' requirements for all activities.
  • Provides professional safety engineering and consultation services to project managers, engineers and scientists.
  • Evaluates all new projects and determines the level of safety review required.
  • Reviews and inspects facilities, systems and hardware designs for adequate safety and health controls.
  • Assists/Chairs Safety Review Board (SRB) and Process Safety Management (PSM). Identifies and performs hazard analyses, and recommends controls to eliminate, reduce, and/or control hazards.
  • Determines and recommends levels of risk associated with test programs and briefs leadership and management for approval.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance 
  • This is APDP position requiring Level I Non-Critical certification in Engineering (S) within two years

  • Completion of Systems Safety Management course

  • Ability to lead a diverse team to integrate safety and health processes for solving complex issues
  • Ability to manage workload across competing priorities and work efficiently with others towards a common goal
