The AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate seeks to hire a motivated and experienced mid-level Scientist or Engineer to serve as a Welding Engineering and Joining Applications Project Manager in the Structural Systems Manufacturing Branch of the Manufacturing & Industrial Technologies Division. This position will be filled at the DR-02 (GS-12/13 equivalent) or DR-03 (GS-14 equivalent). The position is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. This position may be filled as a 5-year Flexible Length Term Appointment (new government hires, current government term employees, etc.) with the option to later convert to a permanent appointment.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:
• Performs multidisciplinary professional scientific or engineering professional work specializing in the joining of metal alloys for aerospace, high temperature applications and space applications.
• Strong expertise and knowledge base in metallurgy, testing and material science with experience working with unique metal alloys.
• Conduct research and manage supplier to help solve problems, develop new methods, and broaden the overall application of welding and joining applications.
• Plan and execute a diverse portfolio to establish, improve, and/or preserve critical national defense manufacturing capabilities.
• Plan, organize, direct and coordinate significant and complex research projects and/or processes advancing the manufacture of materials, components, subsystems and systems critical to Department of Air Force mission.
• Applies technical knowledge and advanced scientific or engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to ensure assigned projects/processes remain consistent with program objectives, costs, schedules, performance criteria, and existing policies.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree, in a relevant technical field, from an accredited (or ABET accredited for engineering) academic institution
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (for new hires); Possess and maintain a Secret security clearance (for current employees)
Desired Qualifications
• Advanced degree in a technical or business-related area
• Understanding, familiarity, and/or experience with current state-of-art and challenges with manufacturing weapon systems
• Five or more years experience managing government contracts
• Five or more years experience building and executing technical and/or manufacturing roadmaps
• Strong organization, verbal, and written communication skills
