The Resilient Synchronized Systems Branch plays an integral role in leading the discovery and development of systems that enable warfighters to optimize, plan, and coordinate complex, multi-domain operations. We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Scientists and Engineers to bring expertise to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and techniques to planning for air operations. Position duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Designs and documents software interfaces, APIs, and libraries to enable integrating automated planning AI capabilities with existing operational processes and software systems.
  • Identifies and implements AI algorithms for components of operational planning to enhance human decision-making capabilities.
  • Generates and executes experiments and assessment tools for evaluating the effectiveness of AI methods and AI-human teams.
  • Assists in digitizing operational plans and tactics using established software engineering practices.
  • Applies best practices in computer science to define requirements, architectures, designs, planning, development, and verification and validation of decision-making AI tools.
  • Serves on interdisciplinary research teams utilizing multiple disciplines of computer science to include programming, probability and statistics, data analytics, and advanced AI technologies.
  • Conceptualizes and develops technical information, reports, data visualization products, and briefings on project planning, progress, evaluation, validation/verification, documentation, and underlying science.
  • Works with senior scientists to review, evaluate and recommend automated planning and assessment resources to meet current and future needs.
  • Works within a development team applying agile development principles to develop software and execute automated planning tasks.
  • Prepares research results and methodologies for presentations and publication in technical reports, briefings, and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Authors proposals for new research and development tasks, reports, and manuscripts summarizing research findings.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited academic institution
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Top Secret/SCI security clearance 
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
  • Travel is a requirement
  • This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position that requires Practitioner Level certification in Engineering & Technology Management (ETM). The selectee will have two years to meet ADPD requirements
  • 1 year of specialized experience equal to the DR-I, GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized Experience is experience directly related to the position that was performed at a level equivalent to the grade directly below the position. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD of Science Degree from an accredited academic institution
  • Programming Languages: Java, Python, C++, C#
  • Deployment Tools: Docker, Kubernetes, Apache Flagon
  • AI Techniques: Automated Planning, Mixed Integer Programming, Monte Carlo Tree Search, Adaptive Sampling, Unsupervised Learning
  • Software Engineering Practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • This position is open to all Science and Engineering (S&E) professionals
  • Practical understanding of the principles of Object-Oriented Programming
