The Air Force Research Laboratory's Networking Communication Section (AFRL/RITGB) is seeking to hire a motivated and experienced engineer or scientist that can Technically Lead and direct the high visibility Networking the Fight WARTECH Intera Division (RIE/RIT) program. Networking the Fight’s Objective is to bring flexibility to Information Sharing at the Edge. It contains 3 levels of Execution (LOE) defined as follows:

LOE 1 - Establish a mission level relevant Modeling and Simulation Framework for LOE 2 and 3 that access the mission's impact of the technical soultion(s) being developed in LOE 2 and 3

LOE 2 - Next Generation Cross Domain Solution(s) - Discoverable, reconfigurable Cross Domain Solution (CDS) meeting throughput and latency requirements that is appropriate for tactical deployment at scale and supporting network Quality of Service (QoS)

LOE 3 - Highly Dynamic Red/Black Networks - Message-oriented (e.g. mission level) resilient forwarding over Red/Black networks that optimizes delivery assurance and mission impact.

The WARTECH process brings together warfighters, technologists, planners, and acquisition personnel to collectively develop operational concepts motivated by future force design and enabled by high-payoff Science and Technology (S&T).

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Define, lead, and manage an overall technology area which includes multidisciplinary science and technology (S&T) and/or non-S&T aspects.
  • Make critical decisions which significantly impact science or technology.
  • Apply considerable judgment to resolve critical, multifaceted technical problems spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Accomplish technical tasks or resolve issues involving significant uncertainties, changes, or competing requirements.
  • Set technical objectives and plans, designs, and direct work to meet evolving organizational goals.
  • Lead formation of cross-division, cross directorate technical approach and completing required technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with supporting Networking the Fight cross division SMEs to integrate all technical content.
  • Serves as the Technical Review Lead.
  • Participate in weekly team reviews and program briefings.
  • Collaborate with the Networking the Fight Program Manager (PM), providing them with information, data, and insight, so they can: track and manage cost, schedule, and performance of effort; update customers on program progress; allocate team efforts in support of goals and objectives; build work breakdown structure; building and monitoring breach criteria.
  • Travel of at least two weeks per year will be required.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing
  • Candidates must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution
  • One year of specialized experience equal to the DR-III, or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized Experience is experience directly related to the position that was performed at a level equivalent to the grade directly below the position
  • This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position that requires Practitioner Level certification in Engineering & Technology Management (ETM). The selectee will have two years to meet ADPD requirements
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov

  • Experience in Technically leading complex programs and/or projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience bringing projects together technically.
