The AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate seeks to hire a motivated mid-level Scientist or Engineer to serve as the Section Chief of the Photonic Materials Branch in the Electronic, Photonic, and Soft Materials Division. This position will be filled at the DR-03 level. Current DR-03s, and DR-02 candidates with at least one year of applicable experience will be considered. This position is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Exercises full realm of supervisory responsibility. Responsible for workforce development; identifying, recruiting, and retaining personnel, identifying professional development opportunities and working with individuals to teach them the necessary skills for successful careers.
- Executes the branch strategy as codified by the RXEP Branch Chief and Advanced Development Lead.
- Supports RX and AFRL corporate programmatic reviews.
- Oversees personnel developing advanced materials and technologies to ensure the survivability of eyes, electro-optic sensors and structures against current and future directed energy threats.
- Identify and implement in-house and external contracting strategy in collaboration with Branch Leadership team, branch and division business managers, and contracting/finance per strategy
- Recommends policy and guidance for investment of AFRL research and development funds to meet current and projected AF requirements.
- Coordinates with Product Centers, MAJCOMS, higher headquarters and other research organizations to prioritize AF technology needs and maximize return on investment.
- Plans, organizes, and advocates for applied and advanced development research programs being worked primarily in the industrial base.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree, in a relevant technical field, from an accredited (or ABET accredited for engineering) academic institution
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret-SCI security clearance. Must have at least a current Secret clearance.
- This position requires drug testing.
- This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level 2 (Practitioner) certification in the Engineering & Technical Management Stall. Applicants must list all completed APDP certification on the resume. Selectee will have 5 years to meet the APDP certification requirement.
