AFWERX (AFRL/RG) seeks to hire two mid-level DO-0301-03, Strategic Communications (StratComm) Leads titled the Marketing and Communications Lead and the Outreach and Event Planning Lead in the AFWERX Director of Staff Office.
While the official position location is based in Austin, TX, these positions are 100% remote within the continental United States, no relocation is required nor will it be provided.
Interviews will be tentatively conducted virtually on 20 NOV 2023, from 1200 – 1600 Eastern Time. An alternative time on 17 NOV may be offered if the candidate is not available on 20 NOV.
Marketing and Communications Lead position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Directs programs requiring digital marketing, graphic design, writing, and videography competencies.
- Provides oversight and direction to all AFWERX marketing and communication needs.
- Develops and refines marketing and communications strategies in alignment with the AFWERX Mission to carry out the Director's Intent.
- Builds and implements low friction business operations, ensuring workflow across StratComm is expedient and product development is smooth across all competencies.
- Advises cross-functional teams across StratComm and AFWERX to execute marketing and communication needs.
- Closely collaborates with the Outreach and Events Lead to prioritize, assign, and track internal and external inquiries.
- Leads the development of strategic messaging, products, and resources to effectively communicate the AFWERX Mission to all potential stakeholders.
- Utilizes data driven approaches to design, develop and implement creative strategies, marketing, and communications for engaging with stakeholders.
- Informs and advises AFWERX Leadership (Division Chiefs, Director of Staff, and Front Office Group) on strategic marketing and communications strategies for engagement with stakeholders.
- Represents AFWERX professionally across all potential stakeholders and ensures AFWERX Leadership and workforce is prepared to communicate and engage with all stakeholders appropriately.
Outreach and Event Planning Lead position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as the Outreach and Event Planning Lead, on the AFWERX Strategic Communications (StratComm) Team.
- Directs programs executed by a team of Internal Outreach Program Managers and an Event Planning Team.
- Provides oversight and direction to all AFWERX outreach and event planning needs, to include internal and external facing outreach and events.
- Develops and refines outreach and engagement strategies in alignment with the AFWERX Mission to carry out the Director's Intent.
- Builds and implements low friction business operations, ensuring workflow across StratComm is expedient in support of outreach and events.
- Advises cross-functional teams across StratComm and AFWERX to execute outreach and event needs.
- Closely collaborates with the Marketing and Communications Lead to prioritize, assign, and track internal and external inquiries.
- Leads the development of strategic plans, products, and resources to effectively engage with and represent the AFWERX Mission to all potential stakeholders.
- Utilizes data driven approaches to design, develop and implement creative strategies for outreach and engagement with stakeholders.
- Informs and advises AFWERX Leadership (Division Chiefs, Director of Staff, and Front Office Group) on strategic outreach and engagement with stakeholders.
- Represents AFWERX professionally across all potential stakeholders and ensures AFWERX Leadership and workforce is engaging with all stakeholders in timely and appropriate fashion.
Pay Range: $96,864-$136,885 (base salary not including locality). The locality will be determined based on the selected candidate's location.
Telework

Yes, this position is approved for remote work and duty location can be negotiated after selection.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DR/DO-02/GS-13 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience in one or more of the following:
- 1) marketing and communications,
- 2) organizing and executing events,
- 3) tactical and strategic planning,
- 4) facilitating connections and relationships,
- 5) collaboration and teamwork,
- 6) leadership,
- 7) applying data driven approaches to solve problems.

Experience gained in non-federal positions will also be reviewed for specialized experience.
