The Spacecraft Technology Division Chief within the Space Warfare Directorate is responsible for directing the development and execution of programs which involve basic and applied research and advanced technology and component development including focal plane components and arrays, space-based sensing and sense making, guidance and navigation, space logistics, cybersecurity, spacecraft autonomy, battle management command and control, space domain awareness, and spacecraft bus and operations technologies for contemporary and future space systems.

  • Directs division efforts to provide affordable, resilient, and survivable technology options for the war fighter to enable space superiority through focused research and discovery.

  • Provides direction and oversight to branches in establishing the scope for experimental and theoretical engineering studies required to extend scientific understanding in new directions to meet DAF mission requirements.

  • Combines overall scientific engineering concepts and insights to ascertain the technical feasibility of program goals/cost, and efficiency.

  • Responsible for organizing, training, equipping, and managing division personnel. Provides division oversight of resource allocations for in-house and contract programs, including onsite contract personnel/activities to ensure compliance with DAF regulations.

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with customers, partners, and stakeholders in collaboration with Portfolio Leads (PLs) and technical personnel.

  • Participates in Directorate strategic planning, program advocacy, customer outreach, program execution oversight/guidance, staffing, and reporting and assigns personnel and allocates facility resources to each technical or support effort in a manner consistent with overall Directorate goals, priorities, and plans.

  • Maintains science and engineering mastery of professional engineering work in the aerospace, electrical, mechanical, computer engineering or related relevant disciplines within the scope of the division.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship.
  • Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-03/GS-13 or equivalent grade level. Specialized experience is experience providing the capacity and skills for working independently, leading collaborative events, working in teams and using these approaches to find and solve complex problems. Such experience may also include training, collaborative process facilitation, innovation design practice, writing background, editing job roles, continuous process improvement credentials, multi-agency liaison work, published work in refereed technical journals, and/or briefings to large groups.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level II Non-Critical certification in Science and Technology Management (STM). The selectee will have 24 months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicants for this position must list any acquisition certifications and status as an acquisition corps member in their resume.
