The Medical Flight Standards Branch (USAFSAM/FECM) seeks to fill an entry level GS-09 position of a Health Systems Specialist located within the Aeromedical Consultation Services Division (FEC) of the Aerospace Medicine Department (FE) located at WPAFB, OH.
 
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviews, evaluates and interprets medical standards on all Initial Flying Class I (IFC1) and Medical Flight Screening (MFS) applicants.
  • Provides expert oversight on medical standards, medical examination procedures and requirements to support all branches in the Aeromedical Consultation Service (ACS) to include cardiology, ophthalmology, optometry, neuropsychology, aerospace medicine, pulmonology, anthropometrics and internal medicine. 
  • Conducts medical examination of applicants and makes recommendations to determine fitness for flying duties in the Physical Examination and Processing Program
  • Acts as lead Quality Assurance manager for administrative quality review of initial flight physical examinations and monitors the completion process for IFC1/MFS applicants
  • Serves as liaison between various organizations for scheduling, processing and clearing applicants for the IFC1/MFS process.
  • Serves as focal point and subject matter expert regarding the analysis, interpretation, application and qualification of the IFC1/MFS process
  • Represents USAFSAM Medical Flight Standards Branch with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. 
  • Articulates the IFC1/MFS process at a variety of forums on critical issues impacting the completion of the Aeromedical Consultation Service process.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
  • Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in Air Force Aerospace Medicine and Medical Standards to include waiver requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of the Physical Examination and Processing Program (PEPP), Aeromedical Information Waiver Tracking System (AIMWTS), Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA)
