The Aerospace Components and Subsystem Division (AFRL/RYD), Sensors Directorate seeks to hire a Senior Level, Deputy Division Chief in Dayton, OH. This position is open to candidates currently at the DR-03 or DR-04 (GS-14 or GS-15) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-04 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment.

Position Duties:

  • Assist Division Chief with the execution of division research and development. 

  • Collaborates with the Branch Chiefs and Technical Leads to assure consistent plans and road maps for a program focused on state-of-the-art Microelectronic and Photonic components and subsystems.

  • Work with branch chiefs and technology leads for Buy Plan Development.

  • Authorize travel for the RYD front office group and Branch Chiefs.

  • Approve timecards in ATAAPS and JOCAS.

  • Lead division safety and logistics programs.

  • Proactively promote career development and training of division personnel.

  • Lead RYD security and information activities. 

  • Serves on the RY Facilities Board. 

  • Monitors and execute taskers for all division activities.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship

  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade - DR-03 or GS-14 equivalent.  This includes specialized experience developing, maturing, and/or producing sensors, sense-making, microelectronics, photonics, RF sensing, EO sensing and spectrum war fighter technologies. Development and management of technical/research and development programs, systems engineering experience, and leadership of cross-organizational teams.

  • Position will be filled using any of the following OPM occupational series: 0801 (General Engineer), 0806 (Materials Engineer), 0855 (Electronics Engineer), or 1310 (Physics). 

Applicants must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled:

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret with access to SCI/SAP security clearance, as a condition of employment.

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.

  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N); experience is 4 years; and the selectee will have 60 months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications in their resume. 

  • Position is eligible for situational telework and will require routine mission travel, regular classified engagements, and in-person meetings that cannot always be scheduled around a regular/recurring telework schedule. Employee must live within the commuting area of Wright-Patterson AFB. 

  • Experience in coordination of classified projects and facilities. 

  • Technical expertise in sensors and/or microelectronic and photonic technologies.

  • Significant experience with managing highly technical contracted projects.

  • Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills for technical and senior leader audiences.

  • Ability to perform TDY travel approximately 15% of the time.

  • PCS expenses, if authorized, will be paid IAW the JTR and Air Force regulations. Centrally managed PCS costs paid by the Career Field Team. No DNRP authorized.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a supervisory role at least one year.
  • Experience leading Scientific and Engineering teams for 5-10 years.
  • Experience working with or within the DoD research community.
  • Master Degree or higher desired
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain a professional environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining close relationships with academia and other Government agencies for Basic and Applied Research.
