The AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to fill a mid-level DR-0801-04, Supervisory Principal General Engineer, as the Deputy Division Chief in the Advanced Concepts Division (RWC) at Eglin AFB in Valparaiso, Florida.  The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading classified aerial delivered weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience being a first and/or second-level supervisor, leading cross-functional teams.

 

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as the Deputy, Advanced Concepts Division and provides leadership, direction and oversight for the division.
  • Plans, develops, directs, and manages research and development work in various functional areas to include MS&A, air delivered weapons, aircraft/weapon integration, and weapon subsystems. 
  • Engages with key outside stakeholders to ensure maximum coordination, collaboration and de-confliction. 
  • Manages division level business plan(s) that match(es) resources to the Directorate strategic plan and division technical programs. 
  • Establishes and implements requirements for training, organizing, and equipping a multi-disciplined staff of military, civilians and support contractors. 
  • Directs and reviews all division policies & instructions to assure that Air Force requirements are satisfied. 
  • Analyzes division processes and leads improvement opportunities. 
  • Takes on division and directorate level staff duties in support of AFRL and the Armament Enterprise. 
  • Manages division HR actions in concert with first-/second-level supervisors.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution
  • Must have at least one year of specialized work experience in the government, industry, or academia (DR-03 or equivalent grade level).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a top-secret security clearance.
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position. Applicants for this position must list any acquisition certifications in their resume. 
     

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience with primary duties in aerial delivered weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation.
  • Experience with budgeting, planning, milestone identification, milestone tracking, risk management, budget execution, reporting, and contractor interactions.
  • At least 2 years of experience as program manager responsible for cost, schedule, and performance of an assigned program or functional area.
  • Hands-on, technical experience in related weapon systems/sub-systems technical areas, and a firm understanding of system engineering principles. 
  • Hands-on, in-depth experience working classified research and development and/or acquisition programs.
  • Experience interfacing/collaborating with or within the Department of Defense research/acquisition/operational community.
  • Ability to create technology road maps and/or project plans to meet warfighter requirements.
  • Ability to cultivate a professional, respectful environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
  • Ability to lead many cross-functional/multi-disciplined teams to achieve significant milestones, execute test activities, and/or collaborate with transition partners.
  • Ability to address complex technical/programmatic challenges with creativity and a sense of urgency.
  • Experience preparing and briefing technical concepts to senior leadership and peers in dynamic technical forums.
  • At least 4 years of experience being a first-level supervisor.
