Job Overview

  • Embedded support engineering role serving the Turbines division R&D facility plant spanning 18+ buildings, ensuring reliable operations, streamlined maintenance, critical repair project execution, and advanced planning for all manner of mechanical infrastructure systems enabling research capabilities.
  • Performs plans, studies, analyzes and technical evaluations of concepts and designs for Directorate RDT&E equipment, real property mechanical systems and research and R&D support equipment, capabilities and facilities.
  • Serves as a consultant to Directorate scientific and engineering personnel in mechanical engineering, facility engineering, facility operation, and project management.
  • Performs design, specification, configuration, programming and checkout of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, specialty lab utility, and instrumentation systems associated with aerospace systems research, and associated control and automation systems.
  • Applies engineering theory, practices and principles to improve system performance, accuracy, safety and reliability. 
  • Provides technical direction to resolve field-related process and mechanical system problems. Prepares long and short range plans for providing research and real property mechanical systems and research and R&D support equipment, capabilities and facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Must work 100% on-site/in-person with only the potential for situational telework approval
  • Must meet the OPM Qualification Standard for all Professional Engineering Positions https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/files/all-professional-engineering-positions-0800.pdf 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Non-Critical Sensitive security clearance. 
  • This is an APDP position requiring Tier/Level II Practitioner Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical   Management (N). The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicants for this position must list any acquisition certifications and status as an acquisition corps member in their resume. Employees must obtain/maintain current certifications.

Specialized Experience:

Applicants must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (DR-01/GS-11) to qualify at the DR-02 broadband level. Examples of specialized experience include performing plans, studies, analyzes, and technical evaluations of concepts and designs for Directorate RDT&E equipment, real property mechanical systems and research and R&D support equipment, capabilities, and facilities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Three+ years’ experience in the engineering field applied to facility heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) design, construction, or operations.

  • Skilled trade background in HVAC, building automation systems, electrical, plumbing, or other related career field is a plus.
