The Air and Space Biosciencess Division of the 711th Human Performance Wing within the Air Force Research Laboratory (711HPW/RHB) is looking for an outstanding researcher that has Human Aerospace Physiology experience. The RHB Division needs to fill the DR-0413(Physiology. Series)/0601(Gen Medical and Healthcare Series)/0801(Gen.)/0831(Mech.)/0858(Biomed)/0861(Aerospace) -02/03, Scientist/Engineer - position.

Position duties include; but are not limited to:

  • Performs applied aerospace related research involving human systems integration, human factors, and/or the integration of physiology, engineering, and/or other science disciplines. Directs research pertaining to current plus future aeromedical and aerospace weapon systems evolving around human performance, safety and health in aerospace environments.
  • Independently defines research objectives and determines how they may be best accomplished to enhance understanding of living systems and/or of existing medical practices and techniques.
  • Generates and assesses new and extended healthcare practices,
    methods, systems, and/or devices.
  • Develops and evaluates alternatives, defines the approach, conducts the analyses, and documents findings and products related to optimizing Airmen and Guardian health and performance in adverse operational environments.
  • Formulates and employs research methods for optimizing health, safety, and/or operational performance for aeromedical evacuation, critical care air transport, expeditionary medicine, aerospace physiology, and other human performance related issues.
  • Directs, trains, mentors, and provides guidance to researchers, support personnel, and technicians, fostering a culture of productive collaboration and coordination across AFRL.
  • Manages technical research and testing efforts with outside organizations and collaborators and participates in cross-organizational research teams as needed to contribute towards AFRL mission.
  • Demonstrates creativity and foresight by identifying, preparing, and presenting detailed technical reports and briefings on new concepts and technical directions
    impacting programs/projects, and defining future technology requirements.
  • Collaborates, interacts, coordinates, and/or directly consults with AF, other governments, DoD, academic, and industry partners.

  • Flexible Length and Renewable Term Technical Appointments. This appointment type is used to appoint individuals who are not currently DoD civilian employees into any scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematic positions, including technicians, for a period of more than one year but not more than five years.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year or 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to 1 grade below in the Federal service or equivalent in an alternate pay system.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Air Force operations, objectives, principles, and methods
  • Prior experience in research management, especially in the defense or aerospace sectors.
  • Possess a Master's-level or higher in science or engineering degree from an accredited academic institution.
  • Direct experience with physiological monitoring applied research.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask with strong organizational skills
  • Experience in mission, major issues, program goals and objectives, work processes, and operations of the Directorate
  • Familiarity with human performance research, including physiological measurements, biomechanics, exercise science, cognitive performance, and related areas.
  • Knowledge of management and organizational principles and practices
  • Background on organizing, coordinating, and executing team assignments
  • Public Speaking skills are highly desired for, but not limited to: project presentation, academic instructor, etc.
