The Security Division (AFRL/RYS), Sensors Directorate seeks to hire a Senior-level General Engineer, DR-0801-03 in Dayton, OH. This position is open to candidates currently at the DR-02 (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-03 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment. 

  • Utilizes multidisciplinary professional engineering knowledge to define, lead, conceive, initiate, plan, execute, and direct in-house and contractual exploratory development programs in highly complex technical areas of security domain technologies. 
  • Duties include managing/overseeing a transitioning software solution from AFRL to a PEO and supporting the effort thereafter.
  • Collaborates with other technical experts within and outside the Directorate. 
  • Develops artifacts for network system approvals and system of record notifications. 
  • Works independently to analyze problems, define requirements, implement solutions and manage research programs in the areas of security research programs.
  • Recommends the most feasible approach to solving engineering problems. 
  • Writes tasks and plans outlining requirements and justifications for proposed work. 
  • Accomplishes trade-off analysis in order to optimize AFRL technologies and methodologies for security research. 
  • Performs overall system analysis for application of new and innovative concepts towards security research. 
  • Reviews technical literature and coordinates with other government agencies to ensure that full advantage is taken of existing knowledge. Attends meetings of inter-agency groups within areas assigned, serving as AFRL technical representative. 
  • Applies expert knowledge and mastery of advanced engineering methods, theories & standards to write technical exhibits, work statements and purchase requests. 
  • Serves as technical evaluator on contractor proposals.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DR-02, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include the ability to interpret, select,and apply a variety of scientific and/or architecture/engineering principles and guidelines. Analyze, investigate, and delineate specifics of the problem encountered and devise ways to meet technical requirements and develop technical programs to accomplish objectives.
  • Position will be filled using occupational series within the SCIENTIST AND ENGINEERING career field. Applicant must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled.   • Applicants must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret with access to SCI and SAP security clearance, as condition of employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with or within Counterintelligence (CI), Intelligence Community (IC), or Law Enforcement (LE) organizations
  • Program Management and software skills/experience are a plus.
  • Master’s Degree desired
  • Experience working with Scientist and Engineers within DoD Research and Development organizations
  • Experience working security efforts in an multi-level security environment
