The Geospace Environment Impacts and Applications Branch is seeking a Systems and Experimentation Engineer. This Interdisciplinary position is expected to be a 100%-time commitment. The Systems and Experimentation Engineer would be responsible for a large portfolio of engineering projects and experiment campaigns across the branch. The systems engineering portion of the job responsibilities would be designing experimental systems for space environment research, incorporating systems into the final product, assessing the systems, and solving problems within the systems and integration. The experimentation engineering portion of the job responsibilities would include designing, planning, and executing experiments and field campaigns to gather space environment data and assisting any satellite missions planned involving space environment instrumentation. This position may consider remote telwork on a case-by-case basis.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Manages a diverse product portfolio in the space environment by integrating systems and planning experiments.
- Integrates systems to develop scientific products to support the space environment mission.
- Designs systems to develop scientific products to support the space environment mission.
- Plans various experiments and/or field campaigns to gather data for space environment research in conjunction with external organizations, the safety office, and the division chief engineer.
- Executes various experiments and/or field campaigns to gather data for space environment research, including managing people and equipment.
- Authors and enables authoritative reports, journal articles, documents, and presentations of diverse and highly complex information, concepts, and ideas pertaining to multiple areas of expertise.
- Solves challenging technical and scientific issues as they arise concerning systems.
- Participates in and facilitates technology transfers or transitions.
- Supports the Technical Advisor and Mission Lead in maturing concepts and supporting the mission.
- Traveling to meet with customers and stake-holders, sometimes internationally.
- Traveling to support experiments or field campaigns, sometimes internationally and lasting up to a month.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution
- This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level II (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technology Management (ETM). The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. 80 hours of qualified continuous learning will be required every two years. Applicants for this position must list any acquisition certifications and status as an acquisition corps member in their resume.

Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in relevant science or engineering field.
- Experience in space environment or terrestrial environment research, development, or operations
- Experience managing multidisciplinary programs and leading teams of researchers with diverse expertise
- Experience with systems engineering processes and tools
- Experience planning and organizing large-scale scientific experiments across a large geographic area with up to a dozen participants and lasting up to a month
- Experience with engineering design tools, data analysis software, program management tools, and other scientific tools
- Ability to travel frequently to international locations
- Strong and effective communication skills, critical thinking skills and practical problem-solving
- Ability to recognize significant research opportunities and engage multiple parties in exploring these opportunities
- Enthusiasm to embrace new missions, improve processes and self-educate.
