AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to hire a DR-03-0801-General Engineer to serve as the Section Chief, in the Science and Technology Division (RWT), Autonomy, Navigation and Control Branch (RWTA), Multi-Agent Teaming Section (RWTAM) at Eglin AFB in Valparaiso, Florida. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years' experience leading science and technology, research and development, and experience in Networked, Collaborative, Autonomous (NCA) systems and development of autonomy architectures, network topology control, weapon datalinks, weapon target assignment, path planning for simultaneous arrival techniques, simulation to live flight pipeline development and testing, heterogenous teaming, and battlespace awareness, flight test planning and execution, and autonomy, navigation, and control payload design and integration.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee and lead the design, development, evaluation, and analysis of design constraints and trade-offs for NCA systems.
- Conduct novel research and transform concepts into functioning prototypes using modern software engineering practices to demonstrate feasibility and effectiveness of new and emerging autonomous, navigation, control solutions.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to create and develop algorithms, methods, and solutions for improving NCA system capabilities.
- Communicate ideas, concepts, and prototypes effectively through written and oral mediums.
- Establish and manage R&D programs with internal and external contractors and academia.
- Oversee and lead the execution of S&T projects to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives within prescribed fiscal and time constraints.
- Apply science and engineering principles to day-to-day activities to guide technological decisions.
- Identify S&T test requirements, develop test plans, coordinate test organizations/resources/ranges, facilitate approval processes, and oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Engage with government stakeholders and industry partners as necessary to guide S&T focus areas and project-specific objectives.
- Ensure project financial management, contracting, security, and information assurance requirements are met.
- Perform duties in a responsive, professional manner consistent with established policies and procedures.
- Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower band/grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience includes performing research, development, and/or sustainment of NCA systems and methodologies, as well as experience with flight hardware, software, and hardware-in-the-loop verification and validation.

Required Qualifications

- Must be eligible for and maintain a top-secret security clearance.

- Must possess a professional engineering degree from an ABET accredited academic institution. Applicant must list degree information on resume to include any professional military education.
- This is an Non-Critical APDP position requiring Level II Practitioner Certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N) for the DR03. The selectee must meet, or be capable of achieving the APDP certification as designed on the position description within the defined grace period for that certification level after assignment. The selectee will have 24-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. Applicant must list all completed acquisition certification on resume.

- Must have at least one year of experience at the next lower grade (or equivalent) for consideration
- Must have excellent technical communication ability to include briefings, reports, papers, and other publications.
- BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: You must meet the following qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement and provide documentation to support your qualifications.
- Degree: Have a Bachelor's Degree in professional engineering from a curriculum (1) in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineer curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (beyond first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics; (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with C/C++, MATLAB, as well as, electronics and SUAS flight hardware
- Experience working with or within the Department of Defense research community in NCA related technology areas
- Understanding of NCA systems, autonomy algorithms, cooperative control techniques
- Master’s Degree/PhD from an accredited school
