Geospace Radiation Environment Scientist (RVBXA)
Albuquerque, NMSupport the Space Force! The Space Vehicles Directorate is seeking a highly motivated and experienced S&E professional to conduct geospace radiation environment applied research for the Geospace Environment Impacts and Applications Branch (AFRL/RVBX)Job Overview
This job announcement will be accepting candidate submissions until 04 August 2023. Resumes must be in DD/MMM/YYYY format
The Geospace Environment Impacts and Applications Branch (RVBX) is seeking a geospace radiation environment scientist to research the effects and risks posed by interaction between space environment and spacecraft systems. The incumbent’s day-to-day activities will include the planning and execution of complex applied research investigations including space observations, laboratory experiments, and analytical studies related to the space radiation environmental interactions with the goal of understanding the effects on space systems. The incumbent will conduct efforts to advance models and prediction of risk associated with spacecraft materials interactions with the geospace environment with a focus on characterizing, mitigating, or exploiting the impacts of these environments on DoD systems and capabilities. The incumbent will work with the broader scientific community to leverage current investments in space weather effects on space systems to develop products for DoD and DoD contractor use.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Contributing as a team member to complex data analysis, modeling of space environment impacts on space systems.
- Conduct spacecraft anomaly assessments, experiments and modeling and produce root cause analysis reports and recommendations.
- Developing and maintaining collaborations inside and outside of AFRL to further advance DoD space environmental risk modeling capabilities.
- Documenting results of research in journal articles, technical reports, and conference presentations.
- Supporting transition of environment specifications and models to DoD and DoD contractor users.
