The Simulation and Analysis branch,  RVES, seeks to hire a Mid-level, DR-02 Spacecraft Operations Engineer in Albuquerque.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages and works all aspects of satellite operations and operations readiness, from recruiting and training crews, orchestrating ops processes and schedules, writing documents and procedures, establishing flight rules, ensuring tools are in place, etc; and sitting on console as a member of an operations crew. 
  • Works with Program Managers, Principal Investigators, Chief Engineers, ground and planning tool developers, ops crew members and others to coordinate readiness operations and execution activities.   
  • Leads training programs for on- console flight personnel from development through execution to crew certification. Conducts exercises and rehearsals prior to the launch of a space mission.
  • Develops and executes evaluation criteria and training equipment for satellite console positions.
    Sits on console as Flight Director; directs and holds responsibility for mission crews and on-orbit satellites.
  • Responds to on-orbit issues and anomalies to ensure the safety and security of spacecraft.
  • Develops mission plans, training materials, final reports, status reports, readiness briefs, and other communication products; delivers/briefs leadership, crew members, stakeholders, and others.
    Continuously works to gain and improve knowledge of satellite mission operations readiness and on-orbit operations.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • A bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
    Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DR-01, or equivalent in other pay systems.
