      The AFRL Rocket Lab Detachment 7 Safety Office seeks to hire an experienced Occupational Safety Manager at the DO-02/03 level. The position is located at the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB, CA.

      For more than 60 years, the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB has contributed to several technology developments in rocket engines, including those of Saturn, Titan, Space Shuttle, and all major intercontinental ballistic missiles and current space launchers. Today, the site continues to enable technology leaps in hypersonics, solid rocket boosters, in-space propulsion, and liquid rockets for defense and commercial space in support of the Air & Space Forces.

      We are searching for a high-performing, highly-motivated individual with a strong background in Occupational Safety along with other safety disciplines.

      Position duties include, but are not limited to:

      • Implement and manage site Occupation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with Air Force and OSHA requirements (e.g. HEC, Confined Spaces, High Work, etc.)
      • Develop annual program management reviews as part of the Safety Management System. Author annual report/SWOT analysis that is briefed to higher headquarters
      • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety inspections on all occupied areas of site. Enter data in to Air Force Safety Automated System (AFSAS) and brief results to branch and site leadership
      • Lead Occupational Safety efforts in reviewing all new and current Research, Development, Test and Evaluation efforts to ensure compliance with safety guidance
      • Assist Weapons and Systems Safety as required to support Facility and Test reviews and operations
      • Act as Safety Investigator on request to support local and higher headquarters needs

  • Required Qualifications:
      • United States Citizenship
      • Ability to obtain and maintain required Secret security clearance
      • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DO-01 (GS-11 or equivalent) grade level or above
  • Desired Qualifications:
      • Minimum four years recent military and/or civilian experience working in the safety field
      • Working knowledge of Air Force, OSHA and NFPA instructions and standards
      • Strong interpersonal skills. Experience building, leading and working with teams.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences
      • Certified Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist or Associate Safety Professional
      • Experience working with research and test organizations
      • Expertise using Microsoft 365 products to develop presentations, track data and develop schedules
      • Experience with energetic materials and associated safety protocols
      • Familiarity with cryogenic and hazardous materials safety requirements
      • Familiarity with construction/industrial safety requirements
      • Experience developing and evaluating critical lift plans
      • Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, NEC published codes and standards
