      The Air Force Materiel Command Integrated Development Office (AFMC IDO) seeks to hire a mid-level DR-02 Capability Development Meteorologist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The position will provide subject matter expertise to multiple programs in AFRL and AFLCMC aiding program managers and engineers in determining, and to the best of their ability curtailing, the impacts of the environment and space environment on research, development, new systems, and system upgrades.

      Position duties include, but are not limited to:

      • Provide expert meteorological consultation to the staff and personnel of the IDO, various AFMC organizations, Air Force, and joint agencies on environmental and space environmental considerations of new and emerging technologies and systems.
      • Provides meteorological expertise to acquisition programs entering into or operating within any phase of the acquisition lifecycle with particular emphasis on capability development prior to creating a program of record.
      • Serves as a representative and collaborates on Integrated Planning Teams supporting the development of new technologies while discerning and exploiting the effects of the atmosphere on multiple weapons systems.
      • Evaluates proposals and technical reports to guarantee meteorological parameters that may influence a system during its lifecycle is considered.
      • Addresses weather and space weather-related issues and questions for commanders, directors, lead engineers, and scientists during program reviews.
      • Acts as a focal point to include relevant environmental parameters in modeling, simulation, and analysis, which often includes independent outreach to program managers and engineers.
      • Reviews, accepts, or rejects atmospheric science-related proposals and conclusions to scientists, program managers, and engineers.
      • Aids the Geosciences Branch Chief in establishing objectives, setting short-term priorities and adjusting priorities in accordance with project schedules and constraints.

  • Required Qualifications:
  • Desired Qualifications:
      • PhD or MS in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a relevant technical field for the duties of the position
      • Operational experience providing weather support to aviation and/or military activities
      • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
      • A history of producing and/or evaluating peer-reviewed research or industry proposals
      • Experience in presenting and simplifying scientific results and data to a broad, multidisciplinary audience
